DETAILED Itinerary (offsite)

Day 1: Windhoek to Etosha National Park, South
(450km)(Etosha Safari Lodge Gondwana Collection Namibia or similar)

Your journey begins when you are collected from your accommodation between 08:00 and 08:30. A picnic lunch will be served along the way. We will enter the Etosha National Park and proceed to Okaukuejo rest camp, where there will be enough time to explore and enjoy the swimming pool before a late afternoon game drive.

The Etosha National Park is home to over 100 mammal species, 340 bird species and 110 reptile species. Larger mammals include lion, elephant, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, springbok, zebra and eland. Animals, particularly during the dry season, are dependent on the many waterholes found in the park, and these serve as great places for game viewing. Vegetation in the park is varied, but consists mostly of mopane woodland and grassy plains.

The park is dominated by a large, white depression (the Etosha Pan), which used to be a lake. It is now a dry, dusty, clay and salt pan, but occasionally fills with water after heavy rain. This temporary water attracts thousands of wading birds, including flamingos. Springs along the edge of the Etosha Pan also draw large concentrations of wildlife and birds.

We will stay just outside the park at a private lodge. Etosha Safari Lodge is set on a hillock overlooking sprawling mopane woodland. The chalets each have their own private verandah with panoramic views. The main area offers a spacious deck, dining area, bar, lounge and three swimming pools.

Activities: Etosha Game Drive

Included: Lunch, Dinner, Park Fees and Activity

Day 2: Etosha National Park, East
(Mushara Bush Camp or similar)

Today we will spend most of the day searching for animals, as we make our way through the game reserve towards Namutoni, another rest camp. We will visit a number of waterholes and stop to view the Etosha Pan, also known as the “place of dry water”. This extensive, flat depression is about 5,000 km2 and a place of shimmering mirages. Seeing large herds of game in this setting is a unique experience. We may stop at Halali (the middle camp) to have lunch, before we continue on to Namutoni.

At Namutoni, we will be able to relax at the swimming pool or waterhole before a late afternoon game drive. The game viewing here is usually excellent, with close-up views of springboks, zebras, impalas, giraffes, gemsboks and plenty of birds. We may also see elephants and lions.

Our luxury lodge is situated just outside the Von Lindequist gate on the eastern boundary of the Etosha National Park. Mushara Lodge boasts a small library, bar with extensive wine cellar, an airy lounge area with a fireplace for winter evenings, dining area and curio shop. The well-spaced chalets are arranged around a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by well-manicured lawns.

Activities: Etosha Game Drive

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Activity

Day 3: Etosha National Park to Rundu
(Hakusembe River Lodge Gondwana Collection Namibia or similar)

After a morning game drive and the opportunity to take more pictures of Etosha's wildlife in the soft morning light, we leave the park through the eastern gate and continue to Rundu in the southwestern corner of the Kavango region. This part of the country is mostly inhabited by the Okavango people.

Hakusembe River Lodge is situated on the Okavango River, near Rundu. All chalets look out over the picturesque river and facilities include a floating deck, swimming pool, restaurant and bar.

This afternoon we will enjoy a sunset boat cruise on the Okavango river.

Activities: Game Drive, Sunset cruise

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Activities

Day 4: Rundu to Divindu
(560km)(Divava Okavango Resort & Spa or similar)

After driving eastwards along the Okavango River, we enter the beautiful Mahango Game Reserve. The reserve is situated in the northeastern Kavango Region, bordering on the western Caprivi and Botswana. It is characterised by riverine forests, a broad flood plain, magnificent baobabs and large herds of elephant and red lechwe. The reserve is one of Namibia's most diverse and interesting conservation areas, harbouring rare game species such as buffalo, sable and roan antelope, Chobe bushbuck, reedbuck, tsessebe and sitatunga.

Our accommodation will be the luxury Divava Okavango Resort & Spa. Perched on the Okavango River, you may spot hippos and crocodiles from your chalet which boasts a large deck, spacious bathroom and an indoor and outdoor shower.

We will go on a game drive in the afternoon to spot the exciting wildlife this area has to offer.

Activity: Mahangu Game Reserve game drive

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Park Fees and Activity

Day 5: Mahango to Okavango Delta
(200km)(Mopiri Camp or similar)

Today's destination is the unbelievable Okavango Delta. We will cross the border into Botswana and continue southwards through small villages and towns, steering clear of goats and cattle on the road. We will arrive at our accommodation in the early afternoon after having changed to 4-wheel drive during the last part of our journey in order to make it through the sand. It is then time to sit down with a drink on the deck overlooking the Weboro Lagoon and keep a lookout for crocodiles, hippos and birds.

The Okavango Delta is situated in the northwestern corner of Botswana and stretches over 15000 square kilometres. Here, the magnificent Okavango River sprawls out over the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert forming a flourishing wetland oasis featuring meandering waterways, lagoons studded with water lilies, as well as fertile floodplains and reeded islands inhabited with abundant wildlife including lion, rhino, leopard, giraffe, hippos, elephants, crocodiles and countless species of bird.

Our lodge is situated on a tree-filled island and offers the perfect African safari camp experience. Our airy tented suites give panoramic views over the lagoon. It is a good destination for bird-watching with 325 bird species found in the area. This lodge is inclusive both nights - drinks, meals and activities. Activities at the lodge include mokoro boat tours, boat cruises, nature walks, fishing, spa treatments and bird walks.

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Activities

Day 6: Okavango Delta
(Mopiri Camp or similar)

Today the magical Okavango Delta awaits. We will travel by speed boat through the channels to one of the islands and then continue with local mokoro boats. Each mokoro will have its own poler. We will move close to the islands in search of animals. Wildlife here includes elephants, lions, buffalo, aquatic antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, vervet monkeys, leopards and birds. At some point we will stop for a guided walk on one of the islands. We will return to our lodge just after lunch.

Activity: Mokoro Trips at Villa Okavango

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Activities

Day 7: Okavango to Kwando River, Namibia
(470km)(Namushasha River Lodge Gondwana Collection Namibia or similar)

Today we will leave Botswana and return to Namibia. We will drive northwards back to the Mahango Game Reserve, where we will enjoy another short game drive, trying to spot some of the animals that we might have missed during our last visit. As we travel through the Caprivi we may stop to familiarise ourselves with the local culture and perhaps purchase some genuine Namibian handicrafts. Our lodge is situated on the banks of Kwando River.

The captivating Namushasha River Lodge offers views of the Kwando River through a thick canopy of Jackalberry and Mangosteen trees.

Activity: Game Drive

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Activity

Day 8: Kwando to Chobe River Front, Botswana
(260km)(Chobe Safari Lodge or similar)

We drive through Caprivi's capital, Katima Mulilo, then continue over the border to Botswana and our lodge, which is beautifully located on the Chobe River. In the late afternoon we will take a boat cruise on the river. Chobe is famous for large numbers of buffalos and elephants which we hope to see from the boat, as well as hippos and crocodiles. We might also catch sight of lions at the water's edge and the bird life here is rich.

Activity: Wild Horizons Chobe River Cruise

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Activity

Day 9: Chobe River Front
(Chobe Safari Lodge or similar)

The Chobe National Park, which is the second largest national park in Botswana and covers more than 10,000 km2, has one of the greatest concentrations of game found on the African continent. Its abundance of wildlife, and the true African nature of the region, offers the safari experience of a lifetime. It is particularly well known for large numbers of elephants, which are said to be the largest in body size of all living elephants. Other wildlife includes the African painted dog, blue wildebeest, Cape buffalo, civet, giraffe, hippopotamus, hyena, leopard, lion, puku, tseessebe and zebra.

Our morning to late morning hours will be dedicated to game driving in and around the park. Like the boat tour yesterday it may turn out to be one of the highlights of our safari. The afternoon and evening may be used to relax at the pool or, for those who so wish, another boat tour or game drive. Note that extra activities are not included in the price of the safari and will be at the client's own expense.

Activity: Game drive in Chobe National Park.

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Park Fees and Activity

Day 10: Chobe to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
(Victoria Falls Rainbow Hotel or similar)

The last day of our tour takes us to Zimbabwe. Our destination is only 60km away from the border. We check into the hotel then visit the spectacular Victoria Falls. The best time of the day to see them is early morning or just before sunset. The noise of Victoria Falls can be heard from a distance of 40 kilometers, while the spray and mist from the falling water can rise to a height of over 400 meters. Local tribes used to call the waterfall, Mosi-o-Tunya, “The smoke that thunders”. It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and famous for being the largest waterfall in the world.

After enjoying the magnificent views of the Falls, we head back to our hotel and prepare for the evening's farewell dinner at a restaurant (this will be at the client's own expense). Here we will say farewell to our guides who will return to Windhoek the next day. Those who wish to return to Windhoek may do so at an additional cost of N$1500. Those who want to stay at Victoria Falls have a multitude of activities to choose from - rafting, fishing, elephant rides and boat tours, with a swim in the “Devil's pool” near the falls being an extraordinary experience.

Activity: Visit to Victoria Falls.

Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Activity

Day 11: Victoria Falls

This marks the end of your tour. The guide will take you to the airport in the morning and then continue back to Namibia. Those travelling back to Windhoek will leave with the guide. There will be an extra night at a lodge on the way, making it 12 days for those returning to Windhoek.

Included: Breakfast, Airport transfer
