Day 1: Solitaire

Day 1: Windhoek to Solitaire
(Namib Desert Lodge, Gondwana Collection Namibia or similar)

Collection time is between 08:00 and 08:30 from any location in Windhoek. Departing the city, we journey through the scenic landscapes surrounding Windhoek, crossing both the Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland Range. As we descend from the central plateau, the scenery transforms into the vast, grassy savannahs of the Namib Desert.

En route, we pause at the quaint settlement of Solitaire—a perfect spot to stretch your legs, refuel, and perhaps enjoy some afternoon tea and the famous apple pie.

We aim to arrive at our comfortable lodge in the Sossusvlei area by early afternoon. Later, you'll join a shared afternoon sundowner drive with the lodge, the perfect opportunity to soak in the stunning desert vistas as the sun sets over the dunes.

Our lodge lodge provides a spectacular experience of the ancient desert with two swimming pools and a waterhole surrounded by sandy splendour

Sossusvlei is located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park. Here you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib contrasting with clear blue skies. These unique dunes rise to almost 400 metres, making them some of the highest in the world. They come alive in the morning and evening light and draw photography enthusiasts from around the globe. Sossusvlei is home to a variety of desert wildlife including oryx, springbok, ostrich and a variety of reptiles. Visitors can climb ‘Big Daddy’, one of Sossusvlei's tallest dunes, and explore Deadvlei, a white clay pan dotted with ancient trees.
