In August of last year, the Namibian government announced the Tourism Revival Initiative geared towards reviving the sector and welcoming back international tourists and arrivals.
The Namibian government has been vigilant in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in our country with the safety of residents and guests being their top priority. Namibia continues to carefully monitor the situation and remains vigilant in combatting the virus, with its main priority being the safety and well-being of its residents and those visiting within its borders.
The following protocols are now in place:
Booking a safari during the time of Covid-19: Blue Crane Safaris Namibia is committed to providing flexibility and financial security to any guests planning travel to any of our safari lodges. We will be as flexible as reasonably possible in amending guest bookings. With country-specific requirements and quarantine eventualities there might not be a universal solution, however we aim to provide conditions that ease the uncertainty and provide you with the faith that, even in a time where we travel or book our safari with COVID-19, we are available to look after you.
These new terms replace our previously released terms and will stay in place until such time as the WHO declares the pandemic as over or travel restrictions in the destinations we operate, have been lifted. Once that is the case, we will revert back to our standard terms & conditions.
The below outlined T&C's apply to Blue Crane Safaris' Guided Tours in Namibia, Botswana and Victoria Falls. Although we endeavour to offer the same for tailor-made travel, they may differ depending on our partners' policies.
The above cancellation terms apply for all Blue Crane Safaris Namibia's tours and safaris.
For FIT travel and private guided safaris, we will endeavour to apply the same policies as set out above, however, this is subject to third party supplier negotiation and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Once a FIT booking or private guided safari has been postponed to new dates for travel later in 2021, any further postponement arrangements, prior to 60 days before travel, will carry an admin fee of US$300 per booking.
We recommend that guests wait until 45 days prior to their confirmed date of travel, in order to monitor the global status of travel restrictions.
Choosing to cancel a booking based on uncertainty is understandable, but we advise guests to wait before doing so. Many travel operators are imposing standard terms and conditions which may result in any monies paid out being non-refundable. We advise guests to defer travel to ensure any moneys paid are reserved for future use.
With our flexible policies for all future travel, we highly recommend guests take out comprehensive travel insurance to ensure any funds lost can be recovered.
The responsibility is on the traveller to ensure that they are aware and compliant with the COVID rules and regulations set out by the country that they are travelling to.
In order to provide guests and partners with more flexibility and security, we have revised our terms & conditions for new bookings on Guided Group Safaris:
In order to confirm a booking, a deposit of 25% will be requested as per our standard T&C's.
Guests may cancel the booking by notifying us in writing, by no later than 30 days before travel, in which case the guest will be refunded his previously paid 25% deposit.
Any bookings made +90 days prior to arrival, may be provisionally held for 21 days until further notice; should we receive a confirmed booking for the provisionally booked dates/rooms, we will request you confirm your booking with a deposit paid within 5 working days or cancel the booking.
Final payment needs to reach our account 30 days before travel.
Free cancellation up to 30 days prior to travel. Booking is 100% refundable.
Cancellation within 30 days of travel – Below cancellation fee applies unless booking is being postponed due to COVID related reasons
For FIT travel and private guided safaris, we will endeavour to apply the same policies as per Guided Group travel, however this is subject to third party supplier negotiation and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Once a FIT booking or private guided safari has been postponed to new dates for travel later in 2021, any further postponement arrangements prior to 60 days before travel will carry an admin fee of US$300 per booking.
Between confirmation and 30 days prior to arrival: 100% refund to the value of money received, or credit to the value of money received for postponed / future travel.
From 30 days prior to arrival: Clients can postpone to any time for up to 18 months from original travel date due to COVID-related reasons as detailed below.
Should a client postpone their travel to a future date, 100% credit to the value of the booking will be used towards their new travel dates.
Within 72 hours prior to arrival: Standard cancellation fees will apply.
These revised cancellation terms only apply to COVID-19 related reasons for cancellation. The request for postponement of travel due to the below COVID related reasons needs to reach our office in writing no less than 72 hours before travel.
Any reason for cancellation not listed above, Blue Crane Safaris Namibia's Standard Terms & Conditions apply.
Should the request for postponement reach us within 72 hours, we will endeavour to apply free postponement, however will have to treat this on case-by-case scenario depending on supplier arrangements.
The responsibility is on the traveller to ensure that they are aware and compliant of the COVID rules and regulations set out by the countries they are travelling to or transiting through.
We recommend that guests take out comprehensive travel insurance, should a guest contract COVID-19 and is under treatment or in Quarantine and is unable to travel, they will need to claim from travel insurance.
These statements are subject to change as we continue to monitor and learn about Covid-19 and how it affects the realms of travel.

Many of our current clients as well as potential travelers interested in African safaris have been asking about border closures and flight schedules. Thanks to our direct line of communication with our trusted on-the-ground partners throughout Africa, cross-referenced with official government entities, we’ve compiled a one-stop informational resource with real-time updates on travel restrictions due to COVID-19. Here's the latest on safari travel to Africa…
Most international commercial airlines require passengers to produce a certificate of a negative COVID-19 PCR test that has been conducted within 72 hours of departure. The same may be required when arriving at any transit airport or back in your home country. Many of our trusted suppliers throughout Africa are able to arrange in-lodge/hotel COVID-19 tests or transfer you safely to an authorised testing facility.
Now that a COVID-19 vaccine is becoming available, many potential travelers are asking if they’ll be required to undergo COVID-19 tests and follow the current health and safety protocols when travelling to Africa after getting the vaccine. The answer remains unclear, as experts still need to learn more about the protection that a COVID-19 vaccine provides under real-life conditions. We are keeping abreast of developments in travelling after being vaccinated and will provide updates when we have clear and conclusive information.
Namibia announced new implementation protocols that will guide the country's international tourism revival initiative. These protocols came into effect from 1 September 2020, which signalled the reopening of Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek to international visitors. Entry to Namibia is only allowed via this airport.
A negative COVID-19 test certificate, conducted within 48 hours of departing Namibia, if your country of origin requires it.
Botswana started a phased reopening of international borders from 9 November 2020. Air travel resumed at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, Maun and Kasane International Airports.
Any visitor showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be required to undergo a PCR test, and possible isolation and or quarantine for 14 days.
Travellers are required to undergo a PCR test 24 hours before departing Botswana. This can be done via one of two options:
Zimbabwe announced the reopening of the country's local tourism sector on 3 September 2020. Domestic flights resumed on 21 September 2020 with Air Zimbabwe and Fastjet, in advance of 1 October 2020: the reopening date of Zimbabwe's international airports.
The government instituted a national lockdown until 1 March 2021 and a curfew from 20:00 to 05:30. Air travel remains open for leisure travellers, but land borders are only open to returning residents and essential services – including commercial and transit cargo carriers. Inter-city and inter-provincial holiday travel, as well as visiting national parks and designated tourism facilities are allowed, but will be bound by the country's curfew hours. Visitors who are travelling between destinations are required to provide documentation of bookings at national parks and other designated tourism facilities. Hotels and lodges in Zimbabwe are exempted from the mandatory lockdown business closures.
Not required unless travellers show symptoms of the virus or don't have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate on arrival – they are then required to stay at a designated isolation facility for 7 days, then self- isolate for another 7 days. A fee of $60 will be levied on travellers tested at ports of entry.
